The following nutrition counseling and education services are offered at WWHP:
WWHP focuses on the practice of Mindful Eating as a nutrition counseling approach. In today’s word it is hard to separate out the best path to healthful eating and nutrition outside marketing schemes and various societal expectations. To eat mindfully to is become more aware of your body, mind, thoughts, feelings and environment during a meal. To eat mindfully is committing to long-term changes in eating and therefore health, which will positively impact your life on many levels. To eat mindfully is to practice a tradition that will not only affect the way you eat but the way you live.
WWHP addresses common questions and concerns involving daily nutrition as well as for during and after pregnancy. The focus on exploratory sessions will be basic nutrition education for individuals dealing with non-pathological issues. Anyone experiencing acute symptoms (i.e. allergic reactions, excessive weight loss, etc.) or dealing with chronic diseases should consult their primary care provider for treatment and referrals.
What to expect:
Mindful Eating:
- As with the massage, you will be asked to fill-out various forms to help the therapist understand your medical history as well as your concerns and questions.
- The first 1⁄2 hour session will be an exploratory session to understand your nutrition, eating and health goals, both long and short term, in more detail.
- From this point each 1⁄2 hour session will be very unique to each client. Time will be spent on individual concerns and experiences. Various practical daily mental exercises will be explained during the session for the client to experiment with between sessions. An example of one you might try: Mindfulness of Thoughts “pay attention to and record the thoughts that come to your mind right before you go to eat something.” They are simple, fun, profound and based on the work of Susan Albers in her book, “Eating Mindfully”.
- You and the therapist will decide how many sessions you need. You can schedule for single or multiple sessions and still receive benefit from this technique. As with massage, benefits are compounded with more sessions.
- These techniques can be used in conjunction with healthy weight loss or meditation programs you are involved in.
Basic nutrition exploration:
- These sessions will also be 1⁄2 hour in length and proceeded by you filling out forms to offer more information to the therapist.
- These sessions usually end-up being one-time visits. It is helpful if you want to be steered towards answers to nutrition questions you’ve had on your mind as well as credible resources for continued self education.
